The journey to good work: from Curaçao to Tilburg
2 December 2025 - News
The promise to make good work available for everyone is the common thread in everything we do at Carrière. And sometimes a story comes along that shows exactly what mutual commitment and dedication can mean for flex workers and for clients. The story of Kyra (30), who has been connected to Carrière Tilburg for almost eight years, is a great example of that.
Kyra grew up in Curaçao and decided at the age of twenty to take a bold new step. “I wanted something different. Something new,” Kyra says. She moved to the Netherlands on her own to study. A big decision, but one that marked the start of a future she wanted to build for herself. Through Carrière she found a part time job, and with that her journey to good work began.
Working at Carrière
Kyra worked for several clients, but two workplaces became the foundation of her development: an inventory company and a large bakery. At the inventory company, she started with stock counting. It didn’t take long before she stood out. Her dedication and sense of responsibility led to Kyra becoming a mentor. “I trained new colleagues, acted as their main point of contact, and evaluated their development,” Kyra explains.
Her growth also didn’t go unnoticed at the bakery. What started in production turned into a position as a sales assistant when staff shortages in the shops increased. “I stepped in to help in the stores and it went so well that I eventually got to run an entire shop,” Kyra says. Opening, closing, leading the team, and making sure everything ran smoothly, Kyra did it all.

Personal development and making an impact
Kyra’s growth wasn’t limited to her work on the job. While she took on more responsibility at different workplaces, she also developed personally. Dutch is not her native language, but through daily contact with customers and colleagues, her language skills and understanding of people improved quickly. “Because I worked with different people every day, my Dutch got much better and I learned how to work with all kinds of personalities and cultures,” Kyra says. These are skills she carried with her into every new environment.
With that same sense of responsibility, Kyra also devoted her time to supporting refugees. “I know what it feels like to enter a country without family or support. That is why I want to be there for others,” she explains. For her, this is a natural form of mutuality: the opportunities she received in the Netherlands are opportunities she wants to pass on. In her own way, she contributes to good work for everyone.
She recently graduated with a degree in law, a milestone she can be truly proud of. With that, she is ready for the next step and is now saying goodbye to Carrière. “I want to gain experience in the legal field and eventually obtain my master’s degree,” Kyra says.
